Sublime Getting Their Own Biopic

According to consequence.net, Sublime is getting a biopic about the band with the band’s own Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson executive producing it. The currently untitled film will document Sublime’s jounrey from Long Beach misfits to household names, despite not achieving their first hit until after the death of founding vocalist Bradley Nowell. Today, songs like “What I Got,” “Santeria,” and Doin’ Time” are alt rock radio staples and Francis Lawrence will be directing the Sublime biopic from a script by Chris Mundy. According to a statement from Gaugh and Wilson, “Wow – we can’t believe this is finally happening and we couldn’t be more honored and excited to have the great Francis Lawrence and Chris Mundy telling our story, We are so grateful to Peter Paterno and Dave Kaplan/Surfdog for their years of persistence and vision in getting this film going and thankful to Sony’s 3000 Pictures and Chernin Entertainment for believing in us and getting it on the big screen. We know Bradley’s talent and spirit will be part of this incredible journey.”

Sony’s 3000 Pictures, Chernin Entertainment, Dave Kaplan, and Peter Paterno are developing the Sublime Biopic with Nowell’s widow Troy and son Jake also executive producing. The project has not yet given a release date.

Last year was the 25th anniversary of Sublime’s seminal self-titled album and Gaugh and Wilson released a few new music videos for the event. Putting out the Origins of the video to “Pawn Shop” with Consequence last November.
