Steve Martin Playfully Fuels Meryl Streep and Martin Short Romance Rumors on Instagram

Leave it to Steve Martin to keep fans buzzing about romance rumors between his Only Murders in the Building co-stars Meryl Streep and Martin Short. The legendary comedian posted a cheeky photo on Instagram, subtly fanning the flames of speculation without directly addressing the whispers.

Martin shared a screenshot of a magazine article featuring himself, Streep, and Short. In classic Steve Martin fashion, he playfully covered his own face with a red prohibited emoji, positioning himself as the “third wheel” in the trio. The post comes hot on the heels of rising rumors about a potential relationship between Streep and Short, particularly after their cozy appearance at the 2024 Golden Globes and an intimate dinner at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica last week. Fans are convinced there’s more than friendship between the two stars.

Despite the speculation, Martin Short addressed the rumors during a recent appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast. “We’re not a couple, we’re just very close friends,” Short said, attempting to put the gossip to rest. However, the actor’s words have done little to quell fan excitement, especially after the duo was spotted holding hands at the Season 4 premiere of the hit Hulu series.

Fans have flooded Martin’s Instagram post with comments, making it clear they’re not buying the “just friends” narrative. “While Meryl and Martin claim they’re just friends, Steve rats them out 😂,” one fan wrote, while another commented, “If Ms. Streep and Martin Short are an item and this is the announcement, I will be over the moon!”

Both stars have experienced significant personal life changes recently. Meryl Streep, who was married to Don Gummer for nearly 40 years, announced their separation in 2023. Martin Short lost his wife, Nancy Dolman, to ovarian cancer in 2010.

While neither Streep nor Short has officially confirmed any romantic involvement, Steve Martin’s playful post is keeping fans on their toes, sparking hope that two of Hollywood’s most beloved figures have found love together.
