This year has forever changed how we eat popcorn, which as it turns out, is essentially dessert. In January, Sam’s Club stores began selling Oreo Cookie Pop, a.k.a. salty popcorn coated in broken up Oreo cookies. In May, Clancy’s Birthday Cake Popcorn came to Aldi, which one fan said tasted like those nostalgic “circus cookies.” And in August, Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries Popcorn Mix from Smartfood hit shelves, which was only missing a glass of milk to form the breakfast of champions.
Now, Smartfood is apparently bracing to release a snickerdoodle-flavored popcorn for the holiday season, with Instagram sleuth @CandyHunting reporting that it is already up on Kroger’s website. The bags featured in the photo are marked “limited holiday flavor,” and they should appear on store shelves soon, if they aren’t there already. They show pieces of flaky popcorn dipped in what appears to be crushed snickerdoodle cookies. This sounds like the stuff of dreams, and everyone in the comments agrees.
To some, a snickerdoodle cookie may not appear to be much different than a sugar cookie. Both cookies include the essentials: sugar, butter, and flour. However, there are two key differences to keep in mind. Snickerdoodle cookies are rolled in cinnamon sugar, and they also contain cream of tartar, which gives them their chewier texture.
As for popcorn, the fun flavors we’ve seen this year haven’t been limited to dessert options. People really freaked out over Clancy’s Dill Pickle Popcorn at Aldi. “DILL PICKLE POPCORN is back, and I can’t wait to eat the whole bag with wine for dinner,” Instagrammer @aldi.mademedoit wrote when they made the delightful discovery.
And hey, October is National Popcorn Poppin’ Month AND National Cookie Month, so why not put these two great tastes together? Honestly, could there be a more perfect pairing?
