Before taking the stage at the second annual Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, the renowned metal band Slipknot gave their fans a thrilling preview at a smaller venue, Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA. This performance was notably significant as it marked the debut of their new full-time drummer, Eloy Casagrande, formerly of the Brazilian band Sepultura.
Casagrande, who donned the band’s signature mask, is known among fans for his formidable drumming skills. His addition to Slipknot concluded a remarkable series of events in the metal music scene, resembling a three-team trade. Last month, Casagrande announced his departure from Sepultura, expressing his decision to embrace new beginnings. This move came after Jay Weinberg, Slipknot’s drummer since 2014 and son of E Street Band’s Max Weinberg, was unexpectedly let go by the band last year.
Weinberg’s exit was followed by his own new beginning with the California group, Suicidal Tendencies, essentially continuing the musical chairs among these renowned bands. Meanwhile, Sepultura filled their vacancy with the young American drummer Grayson Nekrutman from Suicidal Tendencies, adding another twist to this unique shuffle of talent.
Slipknot’s performance at Pappy & Harriet’s not only showcased Casagrande’s integration into the band but also celebrated their history with renditions of tracks from their debut album, which is nearing its 25th anniversary, including a rare performance of “Prosthetics.” This event underscored the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the metal music community.
