Brent Smith, the frontman of the renowned rock band Shinedown, recently shared insights into their latest single, “A Symptom of Being Human,” and the state of rock music in a candid interview with Loudwire Nights. As Shinedown winds down a hectic touring year for their album ‘Planet Zero,’ Smith delved deep into the creative process behind their new song.
Describing “Symptom” as a “gift,” Smith explained how the pandemic’s lockdown influenced its creation. The song, born out of a collective sense of fear, frustration, and a quest for understanding, captures the essence of the human condition and our perpetual evolution. Smith likens it to past hits like “Second Chance” and “45,” which similarly emerged quickly and organically during writing sessions.
In the same conversation, Smith highlighted Papa Roach’s significance in the rock scene. Having toured with them, he expressed admiration for their impact and Jacoby Shaddix’s enduring authenticity. Smith’s reflections offer a glimpse into the creative soul of Shinedown and their continued dedication to evolving rock music’s legacy.
