Shania Twain Opens Up About Divorce and Finding Herself Undeniable Love

Shania Twain is getting ready for the release of her new album, Queen of Me as well as a major tour, and she is opening up about past heartbreak. In a new story Twain opened up about her former husband and producer of 14 years, Robert “Mutt” Lange. The pair split up in 2008 after finding out he was having an affair with her close friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Twain references that period of her life as a “very low period in my life.” Although the low point led to Twain and Marie Anne’s husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, bonding over the heartbreak and ended up married on New Year’s Day in 2011.

Twain stated that, “That is a really strong bond that builds over time, that is rare, that you don’t have in every relationship if you don’t have those deep scars in common, We were a big part of each other’s healing.” Adding that, “When I got divorced I said, ‘I’m never getting married again,’ I was definitely one of those people that could have written a million songs about, ‘I’m never going to fall in love again.’ But Fred was such an undeniable love.”

As for Twain’s ex husband, she says that they have found peace with each other and although they no longer collaborate on music, they do share an engineer and she sometimes records at his studio. On the subject Twain says that, “I found peace a long time ago, and maybe peace is forgiveness, you know? I’m able to have more appreciation for him again, not for what happened in our marriage but for all that he contributed to such a great part of my career and my life. We have a beautiful child from it. The resentment is gone. I was coming out of a dark place… now I’m on the other side of that.”

Her next album, Queen of Me, will release on February third.
