This year we’re celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles iconic LP ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.’ Here are five things about the album we think you’ll find really interesting…
The album cover displays 57 photos and nine waxworks of the world’s most famous cultural icons which are spiritual and significant. The list includes Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Sri Yukteswar and Paramahansa Yogananda.
A Picture of Elvis was in, then out for the release of the artwork. Shirley Temple appears on the cover three times. John Lennon wanted Hitler, Mohandas Gandhi, and Jesus, but the band and the label blocked that request for all three.
In most surveys and publications, this album is considered to be the greatest rock album ever recorded. The LP spent 15 weeks on the charts at number one.
It took over 700 hours from start to finish, producing the album, cost over 60 times what was being spent at the time.
Displaying the lyrics on the back of the album had never been done for a rock LP before.
