As Glamour magazine reports, after the overturn of Roe v. Wade, the beauty industry united to help raise money and awareness for reproductive rights. Last week, Saie Beauty launched the Every Body campaign—the largest beauty industry-backed reproductive justice initiative to date—bringing together more than 35 beauty brands to benefit national activist organization SisterSong. The organization, based in the South, is dedicated to protecting those most impacted by anti-abortion legislation and encourages voting for pro-choice political candidates.
Some of our favorite brands—including Glow Recipe, Kopari, Mented Cosmetics, and Live Tinted—are participating in the campaign by repackaging their best-selling products in limited-edition “Every Body green” packaging, a tribute to the green bandanas and green smoke present at abortion rights demonstrations. All of the proceeds will support reproductive justice in partnership with SisterSong.
“At Saie, our mission first and foremost is to feel good and do good for people and the planet,” Saie Beauty founder Laney Crowell said in a press release. “As a mother of two daughters, I couldn’t sit back and feel helpless with our rights on the line. I’m grateful and encouraged that so many like-minded brands jumped at the chance to participate, partner, and contribute to the Every Body campaign. It’s our responsibility to use our platforms to advocate for the right to govern our own bodies and create incredible change.”
The campaign has also received support and backing from celebrity beauty founders like Alicia Keys and Scarlett Johansson. “This campaign is important because collectively we are powerful!” Keys, founder of Keys Soulcare, said in a release. “I love how this brings together unique brands and voices across the beauty and wellness industries to bring awareness to the important work SisterSong is doing. Wellness is to truly care for the whole self—body, mind, and spirit—and every individual should have governance over their whole self.”
“Today the Outset joins more than 35 brands and Founders who partnered on the beauty industry’s largest effort to drive awareness around the issue of reproductive rights ahead of the November midterm elections,” Johansson, founder of the skin care brand, said in a release. “We believe in conscious consumerism and are proud to participate in this effort that highlights and supports the basic human rights that are at stake.”
Monica Simpson, executive director of SisterSong, hopes the awareness and funds will help people in marginalized communities receive the crucial health care and support they need. “Women of color in states with restrictive abortion laws are often battling multiple layers of oppression that impact their ability to to access health care and make decisions about their own bodies,” she says. “The Every Body campaign is catapulting big beauty to the forefront of the fight for reproductive justice by turning their platforms into battlegrounds that will give consumers a unique pathway to organize against anti-abortion laws.”
