Roger Waters Frankfurt, Germany Performance Cancelled

The City of Frankfurt, Germany, recently announced a scheduled Roger Waters performance is canceled. In their decision they stated Waters as “one of the world’s most well-known antisemites.”

Roger Waters was set to perform at the Festhalle concert hall in Frankfurt on May 28th, but due to it not being a privately held entity, and the city having a 60 percent share of it’s ownership, the city was able to cancel the show. The cancellation spoke of Waters’ boycott of Israel, his comparisons of Israel to apartheid South Africa, his declaration of his ties with the Islamist militant group Hamas, and his use of a pig shaped balloon with a star of David on prior tours.

The history of the concert hall was also considered, with it previously being used for the detention of 3,000 Jewish men who got arrested after Kristallnacht in 1938, when Nazis destroyed Jewish-owned stored, houses, and synagogues.

The Frankfurt show was a part of Waters’ European portion of the This Is Not A Drill Tour. He is still scheduled for an additional five German shows this May, in Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, and two nights in Berlin.

The cancellation of the show comes almost a month after Poll Samson, wife of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, posted a Tweet, where she called Waters “antisemitic” and a “Putin apologist.”
