Roger “Rocket” Clemens Watches Son make MLB Debut with a 4-0 victory

Roger “Rocket” Clemens has had some big baseball moments, but not many of them could compare to the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader between the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins. On Monday, Clemens flew into town from Texas to see his son Kody make his major league debut for the Tigers after being called up by Detroit.

Kody Clemens is an American professional baseball infielder and outfielder for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball. Clemens was selected by the Tigers with the 79th overall pick of the 2018 MLB draft. Drafted as a second baseman, he has played first, second, third and in left field this season.

He picked up the start at second base Tuesday night, going 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Detroit’s 4-0 win.

“It was great, I had a blast the whole game, just taking it all in,” Kody Clemens said. “Super happy that we won, and I had so much fun out there.”

Father Roger Clemens also took time to speak to reporters: “I’m just really happy for him; he’s worked really hard to get here, and it has finally happened for him,” the 59-year-old Clemens. “We got everyone into scramble mode yesterday to get up here.” Clemens went 11-8 in 26 career starts against the Tigers in Detroit, but he has a few special memories.

Kody Clemens, 26, is wearing No. 21, one of the numbers worn by his father. “I had so many friends and family members here,” Clemens said. “To get a win, and see the smiles on their faces, it was awesome.”

The Detroit Tigers are playing the Minnesota Twins later on today, game 2/3.
