REO Speedwagon Announces End of Touring Amid Band Tensions

REO Speedwagon has announced that the band will stop touring at the end of the year due to “irreconcilable differences” between bassist Bruce Hall and lead vocalist Kevin Cronin. The lineup, which includes guitarist Dave Amato, touring keyboardist Derek Hilland, and drummer Bryan Hitt, shared the news on their official site, explaining the circumstances leading to their decision.

Tensions within the group reportedly began last November when Hall required back surgery, and Matt Bissonette was brought in as the touring bassist. Despite the health setback, the band stated, “Bruce never had any intention of retiring or walking away from the band, fans, and crew he has loved for almost 50 years.” Similarly, Cronin remained committed to the band and its fans.

The situation ultimately led to a difficult decision. “Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin,” the statement read. “It is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025.”

Hall expressed his heartbreak on Facebook, emphasizing his desire for the band to continue with its original lineup. He mentioned that he had hoped for a proper farewell tour with Kevin, himself, and the rest of the band. Despite the internal rift, REO Speedwagon will complete their scheduled 19 dates through the end of the year, concluding with a final show on November 23 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.
