Whitney Houston would be 54 this year, enjoying the fruits of her many years of labor. Sadly, five years ago tomorrow tonight February 11th, one day before the Grammy Awards Show in Los Angeles, she was found unresponsive in her hotel bath tub, dying of a drug overdose. Life is cruel in that only a few years later her daughter Bobbi would be joining her in eternity, Bobbi at the age of 22.
Did you know that Whitney was schedule to sing a duet with Michael Jackson in his new song ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’ from the Bad LP, but her label blocked the collaboration?
Whitney began as a background singer; you can hear her on many of the 70s Chaka Kahn singles. On her own she achieved 11 number one songs, sold over 130 million records, and she’s the only female singer to score seven consecutive number ones from 1985 to 1988.
Finally, her NFL Championship Game National Anthem in 1991 is still considered today as the most wonderful rendition ever sung.
