Record Store Day is this Saturday April 22nd. Write that down and plan on taking a local road trip.
If you’re old enough to remember “Meet the Beatles,” the album that changed everything, or remember buying the new Elton John album because the radio station played his latest single, then you’re also old enough to remember saving your money and taking a trek to the local neighborhood record store.
We loved the album covers, the smell of vinyl, and buying a single for under $1. Some of us thought the best job in the world would be to work at a record store. Tower records ruled!
In spite of technological advances which put the local and national record store on the extinct list, each year the country celebrates ‘Record Store Day.’ This national record holiday began in 2007, and its purpose is to support the local independent record store owner and their employees. This year Record Store Day is this Saturday April 22nd.
