Queen Elizabeth Celebrates 96th Birthday by Getting Her Own Barbie

Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 96th birthday yesterday, and in honor of another year around the sun, as well as the Platinum Jubilee (her celebrating a historic 70 years on the throne), the royal highness had a Barbie doll made in her likeness.

The Queen Elizabeth Barbie is immortalized in one of her most known looks: an ivory gown accessorized with a blue ribbon, her decorations of order, and a sparkling tiara.

“Queen Elizabeth II’s reign has been one of extraordinary impact, holding a position that few women have,” Historian and Professor Kate Williams explained. “The longest-reigning British monarch, and the first to reach a Platinum Jubilee, The Queen has dedicated herself to service and duty and seen the world change immeasurably. In 1952, when she came to the throne, women were not encouraged to work and politicians expressed doubts about a young female monarch — but she showed them wrong, proved herself an adept leader and diplomat. As Her Majesty celebrates this milestone jubilee it is wonderful to see an iconic brand like Barbie share important historical female figures impact as leaders, creators and pioneers to new generations.”

Queen Elizabeth’s Barbie, which is available at Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Mattel beginning today, is part of Mattel’s Tribute Series, which began last year with a doll paying tribute to Lucille Ball.
