Post Malone Honors Toby Keith with Stirring Rodeo Tribute

In a heartfelt homage to the recently departed Toby Keith, Post Malone, the versatile artist known for blending genres, delivered a touching performance at the American Rodeo in Dallas. Amidst the rodeo’s excitement, Malone chose to honor Keith, a titan of country music who passed away at 62 in February, with a soulful cover of “As Good as I Once Was,” a chart-topping hit that resonated deeply with fans upon its 2005 release.

The performance, which Malone shared on TikTok, saw the artist in a simple yet striking attire of cutoff denim shorts, wielding an acoustic guitar. The tribute reached an emotional peak when Malone, with a red Solo cup in hand—a nod to Keith’s 2011 anthem “Red Solo Cup”—poured beer onto the stage floor in a poignant salute before taking a sip himself.

Keith’s family had previously announced his passing in a dignified statement, highlighting his graceful battle against stomach cancer since its diagnosis in the fall of 2021. They requested privacy during this difficult time, remembering Keith for the courage and dignity he displayed throughout his fight.

Malone’s tribute wasn’t his first to Keith; shortly after the news of Keith’s death, Malone shared a video alongside country artist ERNEST, passionately singing “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” further solidifying his respect and admiration for Keith’s legacy.

Malone’s venture into the country music scene has been more noticeable lately, collaborating with Brad Paisley and performing in honor of Joe Diffie at the 2023 CMA Awards. He’s even flirted with the idea of producing a country album, a testament to his versatility and deep appreciation for the genre, underscoring that his talents and tributes know no bounds.
