There have been many new canine record holders crowned in recent months, and now Pearl the Chihuahua gets to join the list. The Guinness Book of World Records has just named her the ‘shortest dog alive,’ and it’s easy to see why. She’s barely larger than a dollar bill!
The two-year-old pup measures only 5 inches long and weighs a whopping 1.2 pounds. But you can rest assured–what she lacks in size she makes up for in personality and style.
Of course, the internet is all atwitter at the news. “World’s smallest dog lives better than me,” wrote commenter @precious-shorts. Don’t feel bad–she’s living better than most of us. Her outfits are always on point, and her mom told Guinness that she also enjoys gourmet meals of chicken and salmon. Hey–it’s hard work being that cute!
Pearl has become quite the celebrity since winning her title. She “was recently unveiled to the world in Milan, Italy, on the set of” the Guinness World Records’ TV talent show, Lo Show Dei Record. In true Lady Gaga fashion, the miniature Chihuahua was carried out on stage in a large Easter-egg-inspired doggie bed, and audiences couldn’t have asked for anything more.
YouTube commenter @4Li45 said, “So damn cute! I hope she will get old and stay healthy along the way.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! The shortest dog ever recorded–a 2.8inch tall Yorkie named Arthur Marples–passed away just shy of his second birthday, though veterinary care has advanced greatly since 1945. Luckily, Pearl seems to be a healthy girl, too!
We can’t wait to hear about this pocket-sized cutie’s adventure as the shortest dog alive. Congratulations, Pearl!
