Our Favorites From Glenn Frey

Although Glenn Frey, founding member of The Eagles, is no longer with us, his music remains to remind each of us how talented he was. His career began as a struggling artist from Royal Oak, Michigan, who added background vocals to early Bob Seger songs and wrote songs with Jackson Browne in the early days. Here are the songs that remain our favorite Glenn Frey tunes to remember…

“Smugglers Blues” was a monster hit for Glenn in 1984 was a song that was co-written by Glenn and inspired a Miami Vice episode featuring both the song and Glenn in his first acting gig. The song won an MTV Award in 1985 and is considered by many to be the signature song from Glenn Frey.

“The Heat is On” from 1984 took on a life of its own after appearing in the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ film starring Eddie Murphy. Glenn did not write the song, but was asked by the film’s producers to come in and sing something to it – he did, they loved it, and he was paid $15,000 for the work. The guitar solo, however, is all Glenn.

“You Belong to the City” was another Glenn Frey smash that found its way to the popular ‘Miami Vice’ TV series, giving drama to the scene.

“Desperado” is an early Glenn Frey-Don Henley composition that crossed over to Country, and has been covered countless times by many groups. The song earned a great deal of airplay on radio stations of all formats and was never released as a single.
