Our Favorite Lyrics from Rock and Roll

Everyone has favorites, everyone has their favorites. We thought we’d list our favorite lyrics from Rock and Roll that we just love way too much.

“You can check in any time you like, but you can never leave” from Hotel California by the Eagles. We’ve all been there.

“Up to God who’s to decide who’s to live, and who’s to die” is a deep meaningful line from the song “Sweet Cheery Wine” by Tommy James and the Shondells. The line is intended to draw attention to the Vietnam War, which was raging at the time.

We could have used “Like a bridge over troubled waters” by Simon and Garfunkel, but we really like Paul Simon’s line in “Cecilia,” which is “When I’ve come back to bed, someone’s taken my place,” a knock at the promiscuity of the day.

“The way you swept me off my feet, you could have been a broom” in the song “The Way You Do the Things You Do” by the Temptations is a testament of the song writing genius of Holland/Dozier/Holland, the house writers of the entire Motown sound.

Zager and Evans, that famous duo from the epicenter of music Lincoln, NE, had one song to hit the charts “In the Year 2525.” From that, ponder this line: “Ain’t gonna need to tell the truth – tell no lie, everything you think do and say, is in the pill you took today.” It makes us wonder what they think today of social media and the over exposure of our world today.
