Oprah Winfrey, she’s just like us! She puts her pants on one leg at a time, gets invited to the royal wedding, and owns her own avocado orchard. Alright, maybe she’s not all that relatable? But now we can live a little bit more like her because her personal chef is opening up a restaurant so we can all eat like Oprah.
Her chef, Kenny Gilbert announced yesterday that he is planning to open up a restaurant in Raleigh, NC, according to WRAL.com. It will be called Cut & Gather, and is set to open in early 2020. The menu will include wood-fired Southern cuisine like barbecue and seafood. According to the news source, Gilbert has been cooking since he was just seven years old, taught at that tender young age by his father. And by age 11, he had already cooked a full Thanksgiving meal on his own!
Gilbert’s claim to fame is not just the fact that he cooks Oprah’s personal holiday meals. He’s won Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay” back in 2016, was on season seven of Bravo’s “Top Chef” in 2010, and has judged “Chopped Junior.”
Gilbert says he’s excited to join the ever-growing food scene in Raleigh. He first went to Raleigh in 2010 as a special guest chef at the annual Southern Women’s Show, he told WRAL.com. “Fast forward to today – national award-winning names such as friend and former Amelia Island colleague Scott Crawford have cemented the Raleigh food scene on the map,” he said. “I am thrilled to plant roots here and add my own experiences and passion for re-imagined Southern cuisine to one of the fastest growing areas of the country.”
Will Oprah make any appearances at the restaurant? We’ll just have to make a reservation and see for ourselves.
