The holiday season is fast approaching, which means it’s time to start making plans. We need to take down the Halloween decorations, book flights home, and, most importantly, figure out what we’re doing for Thanksgiving. Let’s face it: Thanksgiving is a foodie Superbowl.
But not everybody has concrete plans for celebrating the holidays. Once you factor in travel costs, taking time off work, and the physical distance between you and your family, there are a lot of people who will fly solo this turkey day.
As Delish reports, a recent study commissioned by Bumble found that over half of the respondents want to expand their social circles. So Bumble and Butterball are collaborating to help people forge new friendships this Thanksgiving. Bumble For Friends, the dating app’s section for platonic relationships, is launching a Friendsgiving-planning feature starting November 1st.
With the new Friendsgiving feature, users can match with other people looking for holiday plans. You can join someone’s Friendsgiving, find people to invite to your own gathering, or co-host a Friendsgiving with your newfound pals.
Butterball and Bumble are also hosting a series of in-person and virtual gatherings leading up to the holiday. At these events, guests can meet new friends and gain insights from Butterball’s team of Turkey Talk-Line experts for kitchen guidance.
“Every year we help first-time and veteran cooks to present a meal that’s ‘chef’s kiss,'”says Butterball Turkey Talk-Line expert Tyler Loranger. “And now, with Bumble For Friends, we’re helping people to expand their social networks, to integrate them into these settings, and celebrate togetherness around the holidays.”
Loranger says Friendsgiving is a great way to develop newfound friendships. Her own sister developed her network of friends in a new city through Bumble For Friends. “She does Friendsgiving with this group every year,” she says. “I’ve seen a success story come from a collaboration like this.”
