Nicki Minaj, the illustrious “Super Freaky Girl” rapper, has decisively shut down Kanye West’s proposal to resurrect their shelved collaboration, “New Body,” for his new album, Vultures. This much-anticipated track, originally conceived in 2018, was expected to feature on West’s Yandhi album, which never materialized. West, 46, initiated the conversation by sharing a text message to Minaj, 41, on X (formerly Twitter), seeking clearance for the song’s release.
Minaj, fresh off the success of her latest album, Pink Friday 2, responded during an Instagram Live session, emphasizing that the opportunity for “New Body” had long since faded. With her album featuring big names like Drake and Lil Wayne, Minaj expressed no interest in revisiting a song that’s been in limbo for three years.
The track’s journey has been fraught with changes and controversies. West’s shift to gospel music in 2019 led to disagreements over the song’s direction, as Minaj had penned multiple verses for its original iteration. Despite the song leaking and gaining traction on TikTok, Minaj maintained that its release window had closed, citing a mismatch with West’s gospel era.
As West’s Vultures album progresses, the inclusion of “New Body” remains uncertain. However, Minaj’s stance is clear: she’s moving forward, riding the wave of her current success and leaving the past collaboration behind.
