Just yesterday, Neil Diamond announced that he’s retiring from touring after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The Grammy-winning artist deeply apologized to his fans and those that have tickets for his 50th Anniversary tour, scheduled for Australia and New Zealand in March, which have been canceled.
Neil Diamond turns 77 this week, remaining in remarkably good health through his career, but this news is serious and concerning. Neil is a one in a million recording artist and writer, credited with selling hundreds of millions of records, earning nearly every award a singer and writer can win. Neil remains committed to writing and recording in the coming years, but the constant demands of touring are simply too much according to his doctors.
Neil was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, and this Sunday during the Grammy awards, the Recording Academy will honor him with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
