Motown Has Magic, Still Has the Stars

The Motor City still rocks, with talented stars like Eminem reminding music fans Detroit can be relevant. Motown Music rocked the 60s, filling the airwaves with hope and change. Bob Seger is back on tour after back surgery, and you can still hear Mitch Ryder at various festivals, but did you remember that Iggy Pop hails from Detroit?

It’s too bad the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland because real Rock and Roll started with Detroiter Bill Haley, born in the Motor City. So were Sony Bono, Meatloaf, Alice Cooper, and Del Shannon. The list of stars is mind-blowing.

Ted Nugent, the late Glen Fry of the Eagles, Patti Smith, all of Grand Funk Railroad, Madonna, Marshall Mathers (we know him as Eminem,) Kid Rock, ‘Was not Was’ and Marshall Crenshaw all call Detroit home. Yes, Joni Mitchell was born in Canada but lived in Detroit in her early years. Cameron Crowe the producer (Almost Famous) is a native Detroiter. Tom Arnold, Tom Selleck, Elizabeth Berkley, producer Francis Ford Coppola, the late Ed McMahon, Gilda Radner, Casey Kasem, Pam Dawber, Lily Tomlin, and ‘Inside the Actors Studio’ James Lipton were all born and raised in Detroit. Cars and Stars! That’s the Motor City legend.
