More Soul Stars

We’ve been giving the great soul singers and bands their due, so why stop now? This beautiful sound should never be forgotten and we’re here to keep it that way.

The Staples Singers were in fact a family from Chicago, and much like the Jackson family it had a patriarch, Pops Staples. Other family members included Cleotha, Pervis, Mavis (who is currently touring with Bob Dylan) and Yvonne. “Respect Yourself,” “”I’ll Take You There,” “If You’re Ready (Come Go with Me),” and “Let’s Do It Again,” got you off the dance floor while selling millions of records.
The Staples Singers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. Unfortunately, Pops died in 2000, while Cleotha passed away in 2013.

Let’s give a quick shout out to soul stars Parliament, The Commodores, Phillis Hyman, Labelle, Minnie Ripperton, and Evelyn Champaign King. All of these soul stars were quite fun to listen to back in the day.
