The song was written by Ewan MacColl a folk singer/songwriter. The song was recorded by the Kingston Trio, The Brothers Four, Peter Paul and Mary and Gordon Lightfoot – but made a hit by Roberta Her version made the song the Grammy ‘Song of the Year’ and number one song in 1972.
“Heart of Glass” by Blondie was the band’s third single in 1979, but originally written and put on the shelves five years earlier with a slower more funkier beat, considered a waste of time by the band. When they were looking for new material with new producer Giorgio Moroder (a producer that went on to literally father the disco era) and remembered the song.
