More Pesky One Hit Wonders

As they say, it is better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all. In music terms, it’s better to have had at least one hit single, than never to have hit the charts. One hit wonders are songs that we fall in love with, read all about the band or singer who made the song, then never hear from them again. Here are more of those pesky one hit wonders…

“Venus” is not the original song from the 90s band ‘Bainimarama,’ rather a great song from October of 1969, originally recorded by the Dutch band the Shocking Blue. The song sold nearly eight million copies in the US, causing the manager of the band to rush them to America for a tour.

“Do You Know What I Mean” is the one hit wonder from Lee Michaels in 1971. Lee was born in Los Angeles in 1945 to a stable middle class family, mastered the Hammond organ, and played with multiple garage bands before striking out on his own. Often times, fans would come to his concerts and all they saw was Lee and a drummer on stage. Lee Michaels was years ahead of his time. It’s been decades since anyone has heard from Lee as he disappeared into the night after his one hit wonder “Do You Know What I Mean.”
