Missy Elliott celebrated her 53rd birthday with a dance party in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, one night before she kicked off a two-night stand at Crypto.com Arena on her first-ever headlining tour.
The event, titled “Party on the Plaza: An Out of This World Experience,” was a free public gathering aimed at teaching fans the moves to a new dance challenge Elliott has crafted for her tour. Her tour dancers were present to demonstrate the choreography and get the crowd moving.
The celebration also included a special birthday moment. R&B singer Ciara, one of Elliott’s tour opening acts, led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to the hip-hop star. The festive atmosphere was further heightened by DJs spinning tracks for the dancers and a special appearance by hip-hop legend Sandra Denton, known as Pepa from Salt-N-Pepa.
The night concluded with a spectacular drone light show, which formed a spaceship in the sky over Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center, creating a memorable visual spectacle for the attendees. Elliott’s birthday bash not only celebrated her milestone but also set the stage for her highly anticipated tour, promising fans an unforgettable experience.
