In the 80s the Romantics broke through with a few hits that were not only catchy, but sold a few million albums. Now, original member and Romantics founder Mike Skill has a new solo single, just released called ’67 Riot.’ If you’re a native Detroiter you’ll immediately recognize the album title as a social reference to the 1967 riots in Detroit, a few days in the thick of summer that left 43 people dead and a billion dollars worth of property damage.
The Romantics played the golf course backwards so to speak, cutting an album and staying on the road for nearly three years to gather momentum and earn popularity before getting radio airplay.
“What I Like About You,” “Talking in Your Sleep,” and “One in a Million” were the best tunes by the band, ‘Talking” hit #1 in 1983.
