The estate of the late music icon Michael Jackson has agreed to sell one half of the singer’s music catalog to Sony Music for just over $750 million dollars.
The deal for Jackson’s half-share of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalog will also give Sony sole ownership of works by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Taylor Swift, and Eminem, and is considered one of the biggest business deals of our time.
Michael Jackson and his business partners originally bought the ATV catalog in 1985 for $41 million until it merged with Sony, a necessary move by Michael as he was in millions of dollars in debt at the time. The estate of Michael Jackson has made over $2 billion (that’s a B!!) since his death in 2009. Michael Jackson, even though he has passed, makes over $160 million each year.
