Machine Gun Kelly made an unexpected appearance at Lil Durk’s federal trial in Los Angeles, bringing another high-profile music name into the orbit of the closely watched criminal case.
MGK attended the proceedings Monday, August 24, and observed the trial from an overflow room. His appearance was not expected, and no explanation was provided for why he decided to attend.
There is, however, a musical connection between the two artists.
MGK previously joined Lil Durk onstage during an Amazon Music Live performance in Los Angeles in 2023. During that appearance, MGK played guitar as Durk performed “The Voice.”
The courthouse visit comes as Durk remains in federal custody following his October 2024 arrest in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot.
Federal prosecutors allege that the case developed from an effort to retaliate for the 2020 killing of Durk’s friend and fellow rapper King Von. Prosecutors contend that members of Durk’s crew later targeted rapper Quando Rondo in California in 2022.
Quando Rondo survived the shooting, but his cousin, Lul Pab, was killed.
Durk has denied wrongdoing as the federal case against him continues.
MGK’s appearance does not establish any involvement in the case. Based on the available reporting, the musician attended simply as an observer. Still, his presence offered an unexpected crossover between two artists from different corners of the music world during one of the hip-hop industry’s most closely watched legal proceedings.
