Everyone’s favorite star of Saved By The Bell has officially joined the HGTV family, and he’s revamping old pools to create insane backyard oases. Mario Lopez’s new series, Supersize My Pool, is basically like MTV’s hit show Pimp My Ride—but this time it’s for old, rundown pools instead of fancy cars.
“I like the idea of being Willy Wonka. Most of these pools are broken-down, decrepit or out-dated and are basically just a hole in the ground,” the new host told People. “I come in, and it ends up looking like a mini Vegas resort. The results have been beautiful, and the families are always really happy.”
Each family featured on this season of Supersize My Pool had sent in a video to be considered, and Mario and his team delivered. Every backyard in the series was completely transformed into basically a mini resort, with renovated pools, hot tubs, underwater grottoes, entertainment spaces, and fun, kid-friendly waterslides. “Sometimes a contractor ripped them off, sometimes [the pool is] just broken-down and decrepit. It’s a variety of things,” says Lopez, adding, “But it’s all families, and it’s all kids, and I come to the rescue.”
The show hasn’t just inspired other people; it’s also made the actor rethink his own backyard. “It made me realize what a dreary pool I have. It could really use a facelift. My kids are already hitting me up,” he said.
You can watch Supersize My Pool every Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV.
