Mariah Carey Gets Sued Over Holiday Track

Mariah Carey’s hit song “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, is getting her into hot water, she is being sued over her top of the charts holiday song. In a civil lawsuit filed by Andy Stone, who performs under the stage name Vince Vance and The Valiants, Stone is looking for at least $20 million in damages from Sony Music Entertainment, Mariah Carey, and co-writer Walter Afanasieff, after suggesting “copyright  infringement and unjust enrichment” about a song that he wrote in 1989 also titled “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. However, there aren’t many similarities between the two songs, with Carey’s version being pop and Stone’s being Country. Carey’s lawyer says it will be hard for Stone to prove his claims seeing as the songs have very different lyrics and sound. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” came out in 1994 and took 25 years before it finally reached the number one spot of the Billboard music charts and continues to climb back into that spot every year. The song has also been streamed over one billion times through streaming services such as Spotify.  It seems unlikely that Stone will be able to prove anything when it comes to this lawsuit.
