This July the Fourth week is more than just a weekend long celebration for some stars in sports. For some they get to celebrate the holiday and their birthday as well. Allow me to explain…
Manny Machado celebrated his 24th birthday on Wednesday of this week. The star Orioles infielder has done it all as a young baseball star, winning a Gold Glove, being named an All-Star and hitting over .600 as a high school player!
Lisa Leslie turns 44 this week and if you don’t know who she is then it’s time to educate yourself. She’s a four-time gold medalist at the Olympics for her domination in women’s basketball and obviously played in the WNBA for 12 years. She was an eight-time All-Star and a three-time MVP.
Nile Kinnick would have celebrated his 98th birthday on July 9th of this year if he were still alive today. Unfortunately, the 1939 Heisman Trophy winner died tragically at the age of 24 while he was preparing for war. His life impacted so many that the University of Iowa, where he was a star football player, named their football stadium after him.
