Malcolm Young, rhythm guitarist and founding member of AC/DC has died at the age of 64, due to complications from dementia. Malcolm passed away peacefully Saturday, November 18th, in suburban Sydney, with family and friends by his side. Surviving brother Angus Young has now lost both Malcolm this past weekend, and George another brother earlier in the year.
Malcolm and his family originally hail from Glasgow, Scotland, but the entire family moved to Sydney, Australia in the early 60s. Malcolm Young was 20 when he and Angus took the band out of the garage and gave it a name from a sticker on their sister’s sewing machine (AC/DC) in 1973. It’s safe to say that AC/DC is responsible for over 200 million in worldwide record sales.
Here are the two oddest fun facts about Malcolm and AC/DC; in 1989, the US surrounded General Manuel Noriega’s compound in Panama trying to get him to surrender, He did – how did our military do it? They blasted AC/DC music for three days 24/7 until he couldn’t take it anymore and gave up.
AC/DC was admitted into him Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
