Country music sensation Luke Combs tops the list of nominees at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, securing eight nominations, including for both male artist of the year and the coveted entertainer of the year. This marks his fifth consecutive nomination in these prestigious categories. The ceremony is set to be held on May 16 at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
In an interesting twist, Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” has brought Chapman her first ACM nomination for song of the year, adding a historical note to this year’s awards as she became the first Black songwriter to win this category at last year’s Country Music Awards with the same song.
Following closely behind Combs are Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen, each with six nominations, while Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson each garnered five. Notably, Jelly Roll, a newcomer to the ACMs, received four nominations, including a nod for entertainer of the year, a rare feat for first-time nominees since Billy Ray Cyrus in 1992.
However, the nominations have highlighted a significant gender disparity, with Lainey Wilson being the only female nominee for entertainer of the year, a category that has seen few female winners in its history. The 2024 ACM Awards promise a night of celebration and perhaps, reflection on the diversity and dynamics of modern country music. The event will be streamed on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch, with a red carpet feed available across multiple platforms.
