Lovie Hired and Peyton Retired In Your Sports Headlines

This past weekend, we saw plenty of action happen and it wasn’t necessarily on the field. And the wild thing is we saw these events happen in college and professional sports. Let’s take a look at what happened this past weekend…

Not only did Illinois fire their head coach Bill Cubit, but they hired his replacement. Cubit was named the interim head coach before the season began, but then in November was given a two-year contract to stay on board. Well, he lasted just one year with the team and now Lovie Smith is reportedly replacing him. He is the former coach of the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Bucs.

In professional news, Peyton Manning announced his retirement on Monday. As of today, he’s the NFL leader in three categories: wins (tied with Brett Favre with 196), touchdown passes (539), and passing yards (71,940). He played with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos since his debut in 1998.
