Looking Back at the Most Underappreciated Beatles’ Member

Ringo Star was the most underappreciated Beatle in our view, having joined the band after the devious departure of former drummer Pete Best in the early 60s. Sure, Ringo played the part of a silly, nonsensical dolt well, but most critics and historians put Ringo as one of the smartest of the Fab Four. Here are a few facts that will help you appreciate Richard Starkey Jr.

When Ringo joined the Beatles he was touting a heavy beard which he shaved off for the first rehearsal.
Not every member of the Beatles can brag about this; Ringo had two number one songs in the same year, 1973. Those two songs were “Photograph” and “You’re 16.”

Ringo took the name ‘Ringo’ because he loved to wear rings, his bandmates in the earlier group ‘Rory Storm & the Hurricanes’ had given him that nickname. No, the name Starr does not come directly from his birth last name ‘Starkey’ rather his earlier time on stage with the crowd, as he dubbed it ‘Star Time.’

Ringo was never considered the smart Beatle, yet he was smart enough to marry a Bond girl, Barbara Bach.
