Lightning on Their Way To a Third Straight Stanley Cup Against the Avalanche

In the 1980’s the Edmonton Oilers attempted to get a third Stanley Cup in a row and failed. The last time a team successfully did a threepeat was the Islanders 40 years ago. Between injuries, salary caps, and players egos its rare to have so many chances at the playoffs, let alone winning. However, the Tampa Bay Lightning may do just that. The already two time champions wrapped up their semi-final round with a 2-1 showing on Saturday against the Rangers. Now they will face the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Finals starting this Wednesday in Denver, Colorado. The Lightning don’t get the attention that some teams might, however, they have built a powerful team under their captain Steven Stamkos. With 522 career goals, he is only behind Ovechkin and Crosby when it comes to active NHL players goal counts. Meaning that their odds of winning may not look so bad after all.
