We love musical fun facts, so here are some more mind benders today…
Everybody knows that Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valens perished in a plane crash. Most know that Waylon Jennings lost a coin toss that put Richie Valens on the plane. What you may not know is that Buddy’s pregnant wife heard about his death on the radio, she had a miscarriage the following day, is still alive, and has never visited Buddy’s grave site in Iowa to this day.
There are 4,000 versions of the Beatles hit “Yesterday” and it’s estimated that the song has been played seven million times since its debut on the radio. “You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling” is the record holder of being played an estimate eight million times since it’s been written.
We know that Lynyrd Skynyrd named their band after their least favorite high school teacher Leonard Skinner, who suspended them at various times for having long hair and misbehaving. What we find interesting is that the band became close friends with Leonard, financing a few of the bars he opened in Jacksonville. Leonard Skinner died in 2010 with members of Lynyrd Skynyrd attending the funeral.
