Katie Ledecky was just another great swimmer before the 2016 Olympics, but her time spent in Rio this summer has catapulted her into superstar status. The 19 year old from Washington D.C. has had an amazing run in Rio!
Ledecky swam in five events these Olympics and did quite well in them. She won four gold medals (200m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relay) and one silver medal (4x100m freestyle relay). In doing this, she set the world record for the 800m freestyle, recording a time of just 8:04.79. This shattered the previous record by a few seconds.
As she leaves to head back home, Ledecky’s impressive resume now includes four gold medals, one silver medal and nine world championships! Congrats Katie Ledecky and the rest of the USA Olympic team!
