According to billboard.com, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has recently made the decision that he no longer wants to work with companies such as Gap and Adidas for his fashion going forward. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Ye stated, “It’s time for me to go it alone, It’s fine. I made the companies money. The companies made me money. We created ideas that will change apparel forever. Like the round jacket, the foam runner, the slides that have changed the shoe industry. Now it’s time for Ye to make the new industry. No more companies standing in between me and the audience.” The artist still has a contract with Adidas until 2026 for his Yeezy Boost 350’s, as well as, his apparel line with Gap that expires in 2030.
In June, Ye called out Addidas CEO Kasper Rørsted for “blatant copying,” sharing a photo of the sportswear company’s $55 Adilette 22 sandals, which have a resemblance in colorway and general feel to Ye’s Yeezy Slides, that are also produced by Adidas. Ye stated, “No one should be held in that position where people can steal from them and say we’re just paying you to shut up, That destroys innovation. That destroys creativity. That’s what destroyed Nikola Tesla.” According to Bloomberg, Ye wants to open Donda campuses nationwide that will feature shopping, schools, farms and dorms. The products sold at the campuses will be unique to Ye’s physical and online shops designed by Yeezy staff.
