Justin Timberlake has reached a plea agreement nearly three months after his arrest for driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York. The 43-year-old singer is set to appear in court on Friday, Sept. 13, where he will plead guilty to a reduced charge, as reported by TMZ and the Associated Press.
Despite Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., insisting that the singer was “not intoxicated” during the June 18 arrest, Timberlake was initially charged with DWI and cited for running a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane. According to the arrest report, Timberlake admitted to having “one martini” before driving.
The arresting officer stated that Timberlake’s eyes were bloodshot, he smelled of alcohol, and his speech was slowed. Timberlake also allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He refused a breathalyzer at the station, resulting in a one-year license suspension, a standard penalty for DUI cases in New York.
Timberlake’s attorney initially sought to have the case dismissed, but the motion was withdrawn in August, and Timberlake entered a not guilty plea virtually from Belgium. Timberlake is currently on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, with his next scheduled performance on Sept. 28 in Newark, N.J.
