Julianne Hough Says “The Activist” Controversy Held Her Accountable

“The last few days have been a powerful demonstration of real-time activism,” Julianne Hough wrote on social media following the controversy set ablaze by The Activist, a competition show the actress was set to host in which activists were meant to “battle” against each other to make the most effective change in causes like health, education, and the environment.

The announcement of the show did not go over well with the public and has since been re-imagined as a documentary special to air later than the original October 22nd premiere date.

Hough thanked fans and critics that held her, and her fellow hosts Usher and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, “accountable.”

“I think the greatest thing I learned is to listen to what’s happening, to gather information and to really try to learn,” Hough explained in a recent interview around the controversy. “I think that’s the greatest thing you can do is to just learn and to grow and to be open to different perspectives.”
