John Mellencamp is having a terrific year; he’s been rumored to be engaged to actress Meg Ryan, celebrating his upcoming appearance at the latest ‘Farm Aid’ benefit in CT, and now has learned that he will receive one of rock and roll’s most distinguished awards, the Woody Guthrie Prize, to be bestowed to John on August 30 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Folk singer, reluctant activist, and American music icon Woody Guthrie became the voice of the downtrodden during the toughest days of depression ear Americans. The Woody Guthrie Center has been a benchmark landmark in Tulsa for quite some time, dedicated to Woody and his better Angeles.
Only a handful or deserving artists have earned this award, including Kris Kristofferson, Pete Seeger and Mavis Staples. You can actually attend the Woody Guthrie Prize celebration by calling (918) 574-2710.
