Joan Baez to Be Welcomed Into the Hall

The 32nd Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn April 7th, the 2017 inductees are Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Yes, Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, and Journey. One of the oldest inductees will be folk star and activist Joan Baez.

Joan Baez was born in Staten Island, New York, and began her music career at a very early age playing the streets and small clubs in Greenwich Village. Joan was only 18 when she first performed at Newport Folk Festival , here she had one of those ‘moments with Bob Dylan.’ Bob was initially interested in Joan’s sister, but love would prevail, for a while at least.

Joan was only 22 when she led the crowd at the March on Washington with “We Shall Overcome,” where she was arrested. Martin Luther King Jr. visited her in jail during her brief stay.

Joan Baez was a voice of caution and change in a generation that dealt with so many cultural and equality issues, and richly deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
