Buddy Holly, members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ritchie Valens and Jim Croce all perished in a plane crash many years ago, shortening their incredible lives. One of these stars, Jim Croce, hit the news again this week as his son, A.J (now 30), has released a cover of his dad’s big hit “I’ve Got a Name.” The driving force behind the song is a Goodyear ad paying that needed a soundtrack, thus A.J. was brought aboard to sing a song, a tribute to his dad, just like the commercial’s tribute to father and son Earnhardt’s.
Jim died on September 20th, 1973 at the age of 30, as he and his pilot, fellow musician Maury Muehleisen, George Stevens a comedian on the tour, Kenneth D. Cortese Jim’s manager, and tour coordinator Dennis Rast.
We warn you, the son and father are eerily similar in sound, it’s remarkable. Here’s A.J. Croce’s “I’ve Got A Name.”
