According to ultimateclassicrock.com, Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads has spent the last three decades behind the scenes after the 1991 breakup of the Talking Heads. Producing other bands such as Violent Femmes, Rusted Root, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, amongst others. However, in the past few years, Harrison has returned to live performances, recently reuniting with guitarist Adrian Belew who contributed guitar to the band’s classic 1980 album. Four decades later, Harrison and Belew are revisiting the 1980 album, Remain in Light, discovering new things along the way. The pair will be performing songs from the album on September 29th, at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, along with bassist Julie Slick, percussionist Yahuba Gracia-Torres and members from Turkuaz, a funk band from Brooklyn that Harrison has produced for.
Even with using the 1980 Rome show as a guide, Harrison’s set lists include non-Remain in Light tracks as well, such as “Slippery People,” “Thela Hun Ginjeet” and sometimes Al Green’s “Take Me to the River.” Most Talking Heads fans realize that a reunion is unlikely, but they can still see Belew and Turkuaz reinterpret the original music. Harrison says that performing has been good for him, “It’s been very good for me, and exciting for me, to be back onstage,” he says. “Actually doing these benefits and these other things made me realize how much I kind of missed it.”
