Summer is officially over, the kids have gone back to school, football is prime-time, and the temperatures are beginning to fall. We always think of fall as going to college, and Hollywood has released some of the best ‘school’ films in our lifetime. Here are our favorites…
‘Dead Poet’s Society’ with Robin Williams 1989.
‘Rudy’ released in 1993 starring Sean Austin, while ‘Remember the Titans’ featured Denzel Washington.
‘Paper Chase’ starring Lindsey Wagner, Timothy Bottoms, and John Houseman.
‘Love Story’ starring Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw.
‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ released in 1985 featuring Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy, and Emilio Estevez.
Released in 1986, ‘Back to School’ starring Rodney Dangerfield.
‘Old School’ from 2003 with Will Ferrell and Luke Wilson.
‘Blackboard Jungle’ from 1955 with Glenn Ford.
Observations: Every decade is represented with wonderful films about school, and Hollywood’s finest actors star in them. Sadly, Robin William’s “Dead”… reminds moviegoers how talented he was, while all three stars in ‘The Paper Chase’ opened the doors for future films centered around school. ‘Love Story,’ however, may be the best college movie ever made, as Steve McQueen’s Harvard college hockey character falls so deeply in love with Ali, it may be a better love story.
