Hollywood has not been the same since July 8th, the day actress Naya Rivera was reported missing on Lake Piru in Los Angeles. Officials said Rivera is believed to have drowned while swimming in a lake in Southern California with her 4-year-old son.
“We believe it was mid-afternoon when she went swimming, the idea being, perhaps, that the boat began drifting… and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back on the boat but not enough to save herself,” Ventura County Sheriff William Ayub told reporters at a press conference held after the discovery of her body Monday.
He added that “[Her son Josey] described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind. He looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water.”
Amidst this devastating news, friends and former castmates of Naya held hands and shouted “Say her name — Naya,” as they gathered Lake Piru on Monday morning to mourn the loss of their colleague and friend.
Naya Rivera is survived by her parents, Yolanda and George; a younger brother, Mychal; a sister, Nickayla; and her 4-year-old son.
