Hollywood and Winston Churchill

The 90th Academy Awards are next Sunday and one of the films, the Winston Churchill biopic ‘The Darkest Hour’ has a few Oscar nominations for consideration this year, including ‘Best Film’ ‘Lead Actor’ ‘Cinematography’ ‘Makeup and Hair,’ and ‘Costume Design. The man of the hour Winston was one of the most interesting politicians of his day. This week a controversial documentary about Winston Churchill reveals a side of the man few knew.

Winston Churchill is said to have had an affair with Doris Castlerosse, remaining troubled about the infidelity to his grave. Although he came from a notable British family, his mother was actually an American. Did you know that he is credited with coming up with the term ‘iron curtain? For some reason Hollywood loves this war/political icon, producing the films ‘Churchill: The Hollywood Years’ in 2004, ‘Young Winston,’ ‘The Gathering Storm;’ in 1974, and ‘Into the Storm’ in 2008.
